Our very own Zero Tolerance pole floats are manufactured by Gerry himself here in Nottingham, using only the highest quality materials we can source. The foam used to create the bodies is sourced from the aerospace industry, it is the best we could find (and believe me we’ve searched!). The advantages foam offers over balsa are so numerous we no longer make any balsa floats. The foam we use is a closed cell variety which means it will not take water on like balsa wood does if it isn’t sealed properly. Even if your line cuts through the paint and damages the body it will never take water on. As an experiment here at the shop we have had a float under water for over a month and it still hasn’t taken water on!
Every problem there is with pole floats these days comes down to them being made from balsa. Side eyes get pulled out and the float then takes on water, stems or tips pull out and the float takes on water, your line cuts into the body and again the float will take on water. We believe that our Zero Tolerance floats are some of the Toughest on the market they have been designed to try and overcome the problems encountered in todays pole floats. The stems, regardless what material, run right the way through the body and out top leaving a small peg to glue the antenna. The new ultimate spring eyes we use are then fixed in place on the antenna where this short bit of stem will be, in turn reinforcing the antenna even further and meaning there is no side eye to pull out. The way that these floats are assembled means that stems coming loose and falling out should be a thing of the past. Each float body is shaped by hand then sealed, given 7 coats of paint and varnished to give a super tough finish to the floats. As mentioned earlier if you did manage to damage any of the bodies on our floats they just will not take water on meaning you never have to take shot off. To start with we have made 15 different designs in many different sizes but keep an eye out for new floats we already have another 2 in the pipe line.
To make things easier for you the anglers, we have done a couple of things different to most manufacturers. We haven’t marked our floats in grams or styls, instead we have marked them according to how much shot they take. Just how English anglers fish. It still amazes us how many floats are marked in styls. We have even made certain that where the size of the floats is written it is opposite the floats eye. This means that when all your rigs are tied and stored on winders the writing is facing up and makes identifiying rigs so much easier.
For those who like to assemble their own floats or alter other manufacturers to suit your own fishing, we also sell pole float making materials. All Materials are of the highest standards. If your struggling with what lengths to cut your materials to or just want a few guidelines on where to start, we have uploaded a chart with the measurements of what we cut all our materials to for every pattern in the Zero Tolerance range. I'm afraid its in inches at the moment (Gerry is 77!) but we are working on getting one done in millimetres.
